Full House for Circus of Chefs … The Gala 2008

Circus of Chefs Gala guests browsing tables of donated items while tasting some of southern Wisconsin's finest restaurant cuisine

Circus World's Circus of Chefs … The Gala 2008 — the attraction's biggest annual event and its most important fundraiser — appears destined for another successful year. More than 400 guests have reserved seats for the festive eating, drinking and entertaining event, with all proceeds going directly to benefit Circus World. Festivities get underway at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, in the Deppe Wagon Pavilion, where guests will mingle among colorful antique circus wagons while they sample some of southern Wisconsin's finest cuisine and best beers, wines and coffees prepared by 35 chefs, vintners and brewmasters.

During the tasting, guests can browse a wide assortment of donated items ranging from consumer electronics and vacation packages to fine wines and framed photo prints while making silent auction bids for the pieces that catch their eye. Later in the evening, the food and beverage providers judged to have prepared the finest appetizers, entrées, desserts and beverages will be presented awards, followed by a spirtied live auction and entertainment from Circus World's 2008 season lineup of performers.

The live auction features a selection of the most premium items donated for bidding. This year the live auction items include:

  • A Gary Fisher Triton Trek Bicycle, donated by Trek Bicycle Stores of Madison
  • Thirty-six tickets for a day at Circus World, followed by dinner for 36 in a historic rail car, donated by Circus World
  • A 26-inch by 34-inch watercolor painting of a Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus parade, donated by watercolor artist Greg Halom
  • A business package consisting of a leather executive desk chair, a four-drawer lateral file, and a Panasonic PT-LB50 LCD projector, donated by Henrickson Furniture, KI, Full Compass Systems and Panasonic
  • A golf club and cap signed by golf pro and Madison native Jerry Kelly, four golf passes for the 2008 season at Wild Rock Golf Club, and a two-night stay at the Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort in Wisconsin Dells
  • Two Overture Center for the Arts performance tickets plus a one-year membership in The Madison Club

At the end of the evening, hopes are high that the take from ticket sales, corporate table sponsorships and auction proceeds will top the 2007 event's all-time high of nearly $153,000. Co-chairs of Circus of Chefs … The Gala 2008 are Merlin and Jenele Zitzner, Baraboo National Bank; and Jonathan and Susan Lipp, Full Compass Systems of Middleton.
