Last Chance to See That's the Ticket!

Detail of a cartoon created for "That's the Ticket!" by Joe Heller

Foreign wars, trade, immigration, taxes, recession, health care, the environment, character, experience … today's political concerns have played themselves out many times in our nation's history. With public attention focused on the big presidential election this week (don't forget to vote!), the Wisconsin Historical Museum invites you to review all the hubbub of past elections at its exhibit That's the Ticket! A Parade of Presidential Elections before it closes on Saturday, November 8th.

Colorful arrays of political buttons, ribbons, bumper stickers, handbills, broadsides, tickets, pins, pennants, license plates, clothing, novelties and other objects punctuate the narrative of 38 election seasons. A rare Benjamin Harrison campaign hat from 1888, a Teddy Roosevelt bandana from 1912, Franklin Roosevelt and Wendell Willkie powder compacts from 1940, John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon car antenna flags from 1960, and Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter pocket knives from 1980 are among the many items on display.
