Historic Sites to Show Appreciation for Visitors
Every spring, summer and fall, Wisconsin families and out-of-state visitors get firsthand lessons in the state's rich and colorful history by visiting the Society's historic sites. Those visitors come away with a far better understanding of the lives and times of Wisconsin's early explorers and pioneers. But the lessons they learn — and the fun they have learning about Wisconsin history together — also give meaning and purpose to our historic sites. This year three sites will express their appreciation to those who make the work we do worthwhile — our visitors.
Special Offers at Pendarvis, Madeline Island Museum and Old World Wisconsin
Pendarvis, the Society's Cornish miners' colony restoration in Mineral Point, will open its doors to all visitors for just $2 per person on Sunday, June 7, during Visitor Appreciation Day at Pendarvis. This special one-day-only offer also coincides with a free-admission day at nearby Governor Dodge State Park.
Also on Sunday, June 7, in the far northern reaches of the state, Madeline Island Museum will present its own Visitor Appreciation Day, also offering all visitors admission for just $2 per person. The day also coincides with a free-admission day at nearby Big Bay State Park and with discounted admissions offered by the Madeline Island Ferry Line. Ferry excursions will cost just $4 for everyone 12 and older (11 and younger will be free).
If you live in Waukesha or Walworth counties, you may also want to mark Saturday, June 13, on your calendar. On that day, Old World Wisconsin will present its Vintage Base Ball Home Opener and "W" Counties Appreciation Day, featuring an admission price of just $5 per person for residents of those two counties. At 1:30 p.m., gather to watch as the Old World Wisconsin home team, the Eagle Diamonds, face off against the Milwaukee Cream Citys, playing the game by rules of the 1860s. To learn more about the 19th-century history of our national pastime, visit Old World Wisconsin's About Vintage Base Ball pages.
