Wisconsin Students at National Finals
Wisconsin's best and brightest middle- and high-school history students are in College Park, Maryland, this week to take part in the national finals of National History Day, culminating yearlong research projects designed to help them learn how to conduct scholarly research using primary and secondary sources. And, throughout this week, you can read about their adventures in a daily blog written by the students themselves.
The 2009 state finalists emerged from a field of more than 9,000 students and 109 schools statewide that took part in National History Day this year. Participating students worked for months to create historical research projects related to the program's 2009 theme, The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies. After selecting topics and completing extensive research, students present their conclusions as documentaries, museum-style exhibits, dramatic performances, historical papers and websites — this time before a team of national judges. Good luck and best wishes, Team Wisconsin 2009!
