Green Bay's Lambeau Field to Host the Big Event

The LZ Lambeau logo and dates of the May 2010 event

Wisconsin's Vietnam War veterans will receive the warm welcome home that many of them never received when a coalition of state organizations and veterans groups honors their service and their sacrifice in a weekend-long tribute at Lambeau Field in Green Bay May 21-23, 2010. LZ Lambeau™: Welcoming Home Wisconsin's Vietnam Veterans will culminate months of planning between the Wisconsin Historical Society, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and Wisconsin Public Television to recognize the state's Vietnam veterans.

The celebration will include a motorcycle rally from La Crosse to Green Bay on Friday, May 21, the opening of Back in the World, an exhibit by the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, a Vietnam-era military vehicle exhibit, and the arrival of a Huey helicopter like those that deployed troops in Vietnamese jungle landing zones (LZs). The Moving Wall™, a traveling, half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will also be on hand for the event.

Speakers, Music and a Documentary Premiere

On Saturday evening, May 22, speakers, music and premiere segments of the Wisconsin Vietnam War Stories documentary produced by Wisconsin Public Television will cap off a day of tailgating and fellowship for veterans and their families. Sarah Larsen and Jennifer Miller, authors of the upcoming (spring 2010) Wisconsin Historical Society Press book, Wisconsin Vietnam War Stories, will also be available to sign copies of the book that serves as a companion piece to the television documentary. Similar in format to the award-winning Wisconsin World War II Stories DVD and the book Wisconsin Korean War Stories, the Wisconsin Vietnam War Stories documentary and book will allow Wisconsin veterans to tell their stories in their own words, sharing experiences and memories from the war and their return home. The event continues through Sunday, May 23.
