International Harvester Collectors' Field Day!

The Library Mall in front of the Wisconsin Historical Society headquarters building is filled with meticulously restored and maintained tractors, trucks and cars manufactured by International Harvester and the companies descended from the parent company during the 20th Annual International Harvester Collectors Red Power Roundup on July 24, 2009.

Several thousand enthusiastic owners and collectors of trucks, tractors and cars manufactured by International Harvester or one of its descendant companies converged on Madison in late July to take part in the 20th Annual Red Power Roundup — an occasion for the International Harvester faithful to show off their meticulously restored machines and share information. One of the highlights of the three-day show was a parade of select vehicles from the Alliant Energy Center to the Wisconsin Historical Society, which holds the McCormick-International Harvester Collection, encompassing more than 12 million pages or items dating from 1753 to 1985. On Friday, July 24, the vehicles gathered in front of the Society's headquarters building on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus (see photo above), where curious spectators had a chance to view them up close and talk with the owners about their passion for the classic machines.

Proceeds Benefit the Society

Hosting the gathering this year was Wisconsin Chapter #4 of the International Harvester Collectors Club. As it has done in past years, the club donates proceeds from the show to support the Society, an amount expected to reach $50,000 this year. And that's on top of about $150,000 the club has raised for the Society in the past eight years.

Other highlights of the show included a concert performance by country-western artist Craig Morgan and a reading and book signing by Michael Perry, author of Truck: A Love Story, Population: 485 and Coop.
