Edgar Allan Poe Haunts Old World Wisconsin

A table in the Clausing Barn decorated for the occasion

In celebration of the bicentennial of the birth of master of suspense Edgar Allan Poe, Old World Wisconsin will stage Nightfall with Edgar Allan Poe, a dinner theater series, on Friday and Saturday, October 23-24 and 30-31. The play will feature four of Poe's best-loved tales: The Raven, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Pit and the Pendulum and The Tell-Tale Heart. They are brought to dramatic form by Eric Coble and produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. The Halloween-themed dramatic performances have garnered such enthusiasm that all six performances have already sold out — good reason to mark next year's Halloween Dinner Theater dates on your calendar now: Friday and Saturday, October 22-23 and 29-30, 2010. Revisit Old World Wisconsin's website in spring 2010 for complete details on the next spooky dinner theater scenario.

Dinner, Dessert and Suspense

Friday performances begin with dinner at 6 p.m. in the upper loft of the Clausing Barn with a seasonal, themed buffet. Saturday evening performances begin with dinners at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Stuffed pumpkin, chicken mole, roasted pork loin with burgundy cherry chutney, well-matched side dishes and devilishly delicious desserts create a harvest feast. The complete menu is available to view or download online (PDF 958KB).

After dinner, guests will be led by lamplight to nearby Caldwell Farmers' Club Hall, where the night's suspenseful entertainment will take place. The venue is ideal and authentic, having been the site of dramatic performances for 19th-century settlers long ago.
