Tickets for Saturday Night Event Go on Sale

The LZ Lambeau logo and dates of the May 2010 event

Wisconsin Vietnam War veterans and their families will receive the warm welcome home that many never received when a special three-day welcome home celebration in their honor takes place at Lambeau Field in Green Bay in May 2010. The big event will include a weekend of concerts, reunions and exhibits honoring their service and their sacrifice. Tickets for the highlight of the celebration, on Saturday night, May 22, will be available starting at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11. Tickets can be ordered at LZLambeau.org. This evening is a ticketed event due to limited seating capacity. Self-identified Vietnam veterans are eligible for one free ticket. Additional tickets for friends and family members will be $10 each. There is also a $2 shipping and handling charge for each ticket to help cover administrative costs. Weekend events and activities around Lambeau Field and exhibits in the atrium are free and open to the public.

LZ Lambeau™: Welcoming Home Wisconsin's Vietnam Veterans will culminate months of planning between the Wisconsin Historical Society, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and Wisconsin Public Television to recognize the state's Vietnam veterans. The celebration will include a motorcycle rally from La Crosse to Green Bay on Friday, May 21, the opening of the Back in the World portrait exhibit featuring portraits of Vietnam War veterans by Wisconsin Public Television photographer James Gill, an exhibit by the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, a Vietnam-era military vehicle exhibit, and the display of a Huey helicopter like those that deployed troops in Vietnamese jungle landing zones (LZs). The Moving Wall™, a traveling, half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will also be on hand for the event.

Speakers, Music and a Documentary Premiere

On Saturday evening, May 22, speakers, music and premiere segments of the Wisconsin Vietnam War Stories documentary produced by Wisconsin Public Television will cap off a day of tailgating and fellowship for veterans and their families. Sarah Larsen and Jennifer Miller, authors of the upcoming (spring 2010) Wisconsin Historical Society Press book, Wisconsin Vietnam War Stories, will also be available to sign copies of the book that serves as a companion piece to the television documentary. Similar in format to the award-winning Wisconsin World War II Stories DVD and the book Wisconsin Korean War Stories, the Wisconsin Vietnam War Stories documentary and book will allow Wisconsin veterans to tell their stories in their own words, sharing experiences and memories from the war and their return home. The event continues through Sunday, May 23.
