Wisconsin Historical Museum Holiday Sale
The holidays are a time for giving. And one great way to give to the Wisconsin Historical Society, while getting something in return, is to shop the Wisconsin Historical Museum's annual sale December 10-13. Here you can find inexpensive (but not cheap) gifts and books as well as panels and props from previous exhibits at the Wisconsin Historical Museum. This year the sale will feature panels from That's the Ticket: a Parade of Presidential Elections, World Series Wisconsin, Chris Farley Remembered, Fill 'er Up and Odd Wisconsin. Come early to get in on the good stuff, and enjoy a complimentary cup of hot chocolate.
Ornaments, Keepsakes and Books That Say "Wisconsin"
With the money you save at the sale, you can really clean up in the museum store with items for everyone. The 2009 Capitol Ornaments featuring the Capitol and its spring tulip beds are in, and the price remains just $16. Also available is the finely crafted pewter gas station ornament featuring historic Parman's Super Service Station as it appeared in the 1950s.
Still feel like Minnesota laid claim to a Wisconsin icon when the Vikings signed Brett Favre? Well, you can take comfort in knowing the legend of Paul Bunyan got its start in Wisconsin, not Minnesota. Read all about it in Michael Edmonds' new book, Out of the Northwoods: The Many Lives of Paul Bunyan. If lumberjack lore isn't for you, perhaps you'd enjoy reading about Wisconsin's classic opera houses in Brian Leahy Doyle's Encore! The Renaissance of Wisconsin's Opera Houses. Or, for that hunter on your holiday shopping list, consider Robert Willging's On the Hunt: The History of Deer Hunting in Wisconsin.
Other Unique Badger State Products
Don't forget to check out the Wisconsin Historical Museum store's "Real Wisconsin" line of products that celebrates what is unique to the Badger State, from the iconic to the ironic. Remember the days of oleo-margarine smuggling or getting fresh cheese curds while they were still warm and squeaky? You can bring back those days with this line of mugs, magnets and T-shirts.
