Early registration discounts end August 8 for the September 23-24 Local History and Historic Preservation Conference. If you're planning to join us in Stevens Point for Wisconsin's largest local history and historic preservation event, don't wait any longer. The early registration discount is $20 off the two-day conference registration fee and $10 off on a one-day registration fee. You also won't want to miss the discount hotel rates at the Stevens Point Holiday Inn Convention Center that are only available on a limited number of rooms until September 1. The final conference registration deadline is September 9, but why not register now and save?

Each year we are honored to have a number of notable experts in the field as featured speakers. This year's lineup of featured speakers brings expertise in history, folklore, archives, and historic preservation to a number of thought-provoking and entertaining sessions. Speakers include:
- Michael Edmonds, author of Out of the Northwoods: The Many Lives of Paul Bunyan and longtime librarian for the Wisconsin Historical Society
- Jim Leary, professor of folklore and Scandinavian studies, and director of the Center for the Study of Upper Midwestern Cultures at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
- Mike Jackson, deputy state historic preservation officer for the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency
- Susan Brewer, professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a specialist in teaching the history of American foreign relations
