Society Press Author Featured at Garden Expo
The Wisconsin Historical Society Press will help gardeners enrich their plantings, and their knowledge of Wisconsin history and culture, at the 2013 Garden Expo this weekend at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. A Society Press booth in the Garden Expo Exhibit Hall will showcase history-based books on gardening, cooking and general interest on Friday, February 8, from 3–9 pm; Saturday, February 9, from 9 am–6 pm; and Sunday, February 10, from 10 am–4 pm.
Author to Talk Heirloom Gardens
Historical gardener Marcia Carmichael, author of the Wisconsin Historical Society Press book 'Putting Down Roots: Gardening Insights from Wisconsin's Early Settlers,' will present a special Garden Expo session, "Heirloom Plants and Herbs for Your Garden" at 12:45 pm Sunday, February 10, in the Mendota 6-7 room. Based upon her experiences as the head gardener at Old World Wisconsin, Carmichael will reveal how plants our ancestors grew tell stories about their way of life and how we can enjoy those plants and herbs in gardens today. "Putting Down Roots" will be available for sale — along with dozens of other Society Press titles — at the Wisconsin Historical Society Press booth in the Garden Expo Exhibit Hall (Booth Number 820-821).
