Historic Preservation and Archaeology Month

May is Historic Preservation and Archaeology Month, a nationwide opportunity to learn more about historic places and how we can preserve them. Wisconsin local historical societies, museums, public libraries and other institutions use this monthlong celebration to highlight the important role historic preservation plays in protecting our state's past. You can find many ways to celebrate the places that matter to communities across Wisconsin in our online calendar.

Intriguing and Informative Events Planned Statewide

• Participate in a volunteer archaeological field survey in La Crosse.
• Learn about Wisconsin's Historic Homeowners Tax Credit Program at a presentation in Portage.
• Celebrate the centennial anniversary of the Baskerville Building in Madison.
• Take a tour of the Whitewater Effigy Mounds and meet (through an actor's interpretation) Increase Lapham, one of Wisconsin's first scientists who documented Wisconsin archaeological sites.
• Tour the effigy mounds at Indian Mound Park in Sheboygan.
