Irish Genealogical Research
Co-presidents of the Midwest Ancestor Research and lecturers with the Irish Genealogical Society International, Mary Wickersham and Sheila Northrop, will discuss using historical patterns to estimate where ancestors lived in Ireland during a three-hour, Society-sponsored genealogy workshop on Saturday, May 4, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Library. The workshop will include Irish immigration patterns, and the speakers will provide Irish websites for research. Anyone interested in registering for the workshop should visit the workshops details and registration page.
Workshop Topics
Speakers will discuss standard migration patterns of Irish emigration and travel across North America. This is organized into logical time ranges from the beginning of the 18th century through the early 20th century, using Irish history and culture to predict probable areas of emigration from the Old World to probable areas of immigration in the United States and Canada.
Participants will learn how and when to use genealogy websites to trace Irish ancestors, with examples of searches in free and for-fee online databases.
