An 1886 bird's-eye view of Bayfield, Wisconsin (WHI 6525)
WHI 6525

Wisconsin Historical Society Press author Dennis McCann invites readers to visit 'This Superior Place,' "a community where the past was layered with good times and down times, where natural beauty was the one resource that could not be exhausted by the hand of man, and where history is ever present." In "This Superior Place: Stories from Bayfield and the Apostle Islands," McCann sets out on a visual and historical journey through Wisconsin's northernmost paradise, capturing Bayfield's colorful history of lumbering, quarrying, commercial fishing and orchard farming; visiting the history of the nearby Apostle Islands and Red Cliff Ojibwe community; and touring the beautiful scenery of and around this small Wisconsin city.

View a sneak peak of the splendor in the Wisconsin Historical Society Press' book video trailer, announcing the publication of "This Superior Place." Then, dive in to McCann's witty and engaging stories of Bayfield's unique characters and milestone moments. An e-book edition is also available.
