'Return to Wake Robin' with Chapter a Day
A journey to your favorite cabin "Up North" will be as easy as tuning in to Wisconsin Public Radio's Chapter a Day program in August. Beginning August 5 at 12:30 pm on Idea Network stations statewide, listeners can travel down a summer memory lane with Chapter a Day's Susan Sweeney as she reads from the popular Wisconsin Historical Society Press book, 'Return to Wake Robin: One Cabin in the Heyday of Northwoods Retreats.'
The "Return to Wake Robin" program airs August 5-16. Chapters detail author Marnie Mamminga's memories of her family's cabin near Hayward, Wisconsin, which has been the family's "heart and soul of summer" for five generations. Listen to stories about raucous family car rides, the call of the weekly square dance, the fish that get bigger with each generation, and the splash announcing a perfectly executed cannonball.
Audio Book Coming Soon
By tracing the history of one resort and cabin, Mamminga's book recalls a time and experience that will resonate with anyone who spent summers "Up North" — or wishes they had. An audio book, based upon the Chapter a Day presentation is completing production and will be available in August.
Share a Summer Memory
In addition, Wisconsin Historical Society Press and Wisconsin Public Radio are asking readers and listeners alike to celebrate the summer fun of "Return to Wake Robin" by sharing pictures and memories of times spent "Up North." Share that perfect sunset, the big catch or those family traditions by submitting a favorite photo to the Cabin Fever Photo Collage on Tumblr.
The collage will also feature historic summer cabin photos from Wisconsin Historical Society collections. Visit Tumblr to upload a photo and write a brief caption or memory. Submissions will be posted on the Society Press Tumblr site and archived on the Cabin Fever page.
