The 2013 Local History and Historic Preservation Conference will be held at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids October 11-12

Friday, September 27, is the deadline to postmark your registration for the seventh annual Local History and Historic Preservation Conference in Wisconsin Rapids on October 11-12. You don't want to miss the largest gathering in Wisconsin for local historians and historic preservationists. This seventh annual conference offers new topics and some of the traditional favorites to help our local volunteers and professionals continue the good work they do to preserve and share Wisconsin's history. We'll bring together hundreds of local history leaders at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids to learn, share ideas and make new connections.

Registration Rates: Postmarked by September 27

Registration rates:

  • Two-day registration — $115
  • Friday only — $65
  • Saturday only — $60

New this year are special student rates:

  • Two-day registration — $60
  • One-day registration — $35

We are excited to bring the expertise of Society staff and our partners to a central place where participants can learn and share ideas. As always, the conference will cover a variety of topics to help local organizations tackle specific issues including:

  • Caring for and sharing your archival collections
  • Researching and preserving your historic building
  • Operating a successful organization through fundraising and engaging your audience
  • Promoting history and preservation in your community

Workshops and Special Events

You still have the opportunity to register for several workshops. We also have many events open to all conference attendees. The Town Square will host 23 of our local partners sharing ideas and resources. Friday's entertainment is a fascinating look into the Wisconsin Historical Society's archives at the "Evening of Wisconsin Film and Filmmakers." Tours of the South Wood County Historical Museum will be held throughout the conference.
