Life with the 'Green and Gold'

One of the first female sportscasters in the Midwest, Jessie Garcia, shares behind-the-microphone moments from her decades covering Wisconsin teams, including the Green Bay Packers, in a new Wisconsin Historical Society Press book, 'My Life with the Green & Gold: Tales from 20 Years of Sportscasting.' The veteran sportscaster, sideline reporter and former host of the Mike McCarthy Show provides personal, and oftentimes hilarious, insights on her career. She brings readers to the sidelines at Lambeau Field, inside the locker room, aboard the Packers bus, and into the host's chair. Garcia also shares stories about other Wisconsin teams and athletes she's covered, from the Badgers and Brewers to Wisconsin Olympians.

Garcia's sports "mom-oir" is written from her perspective as a female journalist and a working mom who juggled the demands of family life with a demanding NFL schedule. Not many parents can say they've changed their child's diaper in the tunnel at Lambeau Field, but Jessie Garcia can. An e-book version of "My Life with the Green & Gold" is also available.

Meet Jessie Garcia

Two lucky winners of a Wisconsin Historical Society members-only Green Bay Game Day Experience contest will be able to watch a Packers game with Garcia — and gain her behind-the-scenes insights on the Green & Gold — at the Radisson Hotel in Green Bay November 10. Others can learn more of what Garcia has to say about covering the Packers for 20 years at any of the following special book talks and events.
