Finnish Carpentry

Interior of Palo farmhouse

John Palo, finnish immigrant to the "cutover" lands of northern Wisconsin, built a homestead in the town of Oulu among other Finns draw there by the promise of cheap agricultural lands. Oulu persisted for generations as a farming community despite the long winters and short growing season. As Finnish homesteads were demolished, remodeled or neglected, John's grandson stepped forward to reclaim and restore the family homestead as a testimony to his family's Finnish heritage and Wisconsin roots.
