Free Barn Preservation Books at the Wisconsin Historical Museum
Starting in June, any visitor to the Wisconsin Historical Museum will be able to receive a free copy of a book from the Giving Old Barns New Life series. This series of publications covers the history of barns and farmstead structures in Wisconsin, and farm buildings erected by various ethnic groups. To obtain a copy, simply stop in to visit us at the Wisconsin Historical Museum and pick up a book at the information desk. Only one copy per visitor per month, please (additional copies are available for the reduced price of 95 cents each).
In June we will distribute volume one, which covers the ethnic history and beauty of old barns. In July volume two will be made available, which discusses Wisconsin's changing farmsteads. Volume three is a bibliography on barns and barn preservation, and it will be given out in August. Volume four covers silos, and will be distributed in September. These publications were created by the University of Wisconsin Extension, the Wisconsin Historical Society, and the Wisconsin Trust for Historic Preservation.
