Bone Discoveries

Q. What do I do if I discover bone?

Stop all work immediately, if human remains are inadvertently uncovered.

If there is any reason to suspect that the human remains may be part of a crime scene, notify the local police.

If it is certain that the remains are not part of a crime scene, notify the Burial Sites office at the Wisconsin Historical Society by calling the toll-free number: 1-800-342-7834.

Work may not resume until the Burial Sites office authorizes it.

Q: How do I report the discovery of bone?

Report all discoveries of humane bone by contacting the Burial Sites office at 800-342-7834.
