Spaces and Traces 2010: Brewers' Hill and the Beerline
Join Historic Milwaukee Inc. for its 29th Annual Spaces and Traces Open House Tour, this year held in Brewers' Hill and the Beerline, among the city's oldest residential neighborhoods. Originally surrounded by both commercial and industrial concerns, the area developed such that business owners and laborers lived side by side. This resulted in an interesting mixture of modest workers' cottages and duplexes interspersed among more grand, high-style Greek Revival, Italianate and Queen Anne-style homes.
The tour will go through a similar cross section of styles and forms — many of which have been recently rehabilitated. Other tour-day sites include a former warehouse/factory, an 1877 church and the Schlitz Brewery. Milwaukee's premier historian, John Gurda, will give historical commentary during the event.
We are proud to hold this event in celebration of Wisconsin Historic Preservation and Archaeology Month.
