What is WHPD?

The WHPD stands for The Wisconsin Historic Preservation Database. The WHPD consists of four separate databases: Archeological Sites Inventory (ASI), Architectural History Inventory (AHI), Burial Sites Inventory (BSI), and the Bibliography of Archeological Reports (BAR).

How do I access WHPD?

Once you are registered to use WHPD, you can search the applications directly from any Internet browser.

Is there a fee?

Yes. The annual online subscription fee is $1495 for a single license, which entitles the user to unlimited use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For larger organizations, there are also multiple subscription discounts available and the prices are as follows: 1-4 licenses: $1495 each, 5-9 licenses: $1349 each, and 10-14 licenses: $1275 each.

How do I subscribe?

To subscribe to the WHPD, you will need to complete the registration form and a license agreement found here on our website. Once you have filled out each form you will need to return them with full payment to the Division of Historic Preservation.

Once we have received signed copies of each form, and payment, you will receive an email from us indicating your user name and password to log onto WHPD as well as the help manual. You will also receive the user name and password in the mail as well as a copy of the registration form and license agreement.

What about technical support?

Each registered user will receive a digital copy of our WHPD user's manual, which also offers a help section.

How often is the WHPD updated?

The Division of Historic Preservation manages the WHPD. Records are added and revised on a daily basis. As a result, the WHPD is updated on a daily basis to ensure that your literature searches or research is up to date.
