The
tavern has long been a fixture in Wisconsin communities.
Wisconsin has had a large number of "Mom and Pop"
taverns where folks gather in a friendly environment
for food and drink. Taverns span all socioeconomic groups
and exist everywhere from small, northwoods towns to
urban neighborhoods.
Although faced with increasing competition
and diminishing numbers, taverns still command a presence
in Wisconsin's cultural landscape. Founded in 1934,
the Tavern League of Wisconsin is the largest member
organization of its kind. With over 4,000 members
across the state, the Tavern League works to maintain
the tavern as an essential component of the hospitality
industry.
