Manuscript Collections
1. Rick Phelps
Papers of Richard J. (Rick) Phelps documenting his public service and advocacy for social and legal justice for youth through his positions as Executive Secretary, Governor's Advocacy Committee for Children and Youth, a citizen's committee to address public policy affecting families (1974-1975); State Agency Director, Wisconsin State Public Defender, a state cabinet level agency (1983-1988); Dane County (Wis.) Executive (1988-1997); and founder and Executive Director, of the Youth and Policy Law Center, Inc., focusing on social and legal justice for children and at-risk families (1976-1983). Also documented is his instrumental role in the formation and passage of a major revision in the Wisconsin Children's Code, Assembly Bill 874.
2. Mayville Historical Society
Four photographic collections donated by the Mayville Historical Society. Included are black and white prints, ca. 1950-1988, of Mayville and its surrounding area that were taken by Edgar G. Mueller (1913-2001), a photographer for the Mayville News, a stringer for the Milwaukee Journal, and a well-known wildlife photographer. A second small album contains 12 interior and exterior views of the Solway Coke Plant in Milwaukee taken about 1920. Two additional albums contain views of travel, ca. 1910-1935, to scenic attractions in the West, in Tennessee, and in other southern states, as well as many views of camping and scenery in northern Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Dells area. Urban views of Wisconsin document Darlington, Grafton, Mellen, Sheboygan, Tigerton, Wittenberg, and views of Milwaukee including scenes of state fairs and the Washington Park Zoo.
3. Wisconsin Local History Video Collection
VHS video recordings featuring both general themes in Wisconsin history such as early settlement, logging, and the impact of Main Street on community life as well as local histories of Palmyra, Heineman, Boscobel, and Tigerton.
