Manuscript Collections:

1. Sam Blowsnake Carley Recordings
Aluminum disc recordings of Sam Blowsnake, a Ho-Chunk Indian, singing traditional Winnebago songs recorded in 1934 with transcripts of the recordings in both Winnebago and English.

2. Historic American Buildings Survey, Wisconsin
Manuscript notebook kept by an architect involved with the Historic American Buildings Survey in Wisconsin, in 1935. The notebook contains drawings of the William Dudley residence, 408 N. Frances St., Madison, aka, the "Deutsches Haus"; the former Madison City Hall (A. Kutzbach, architect); the John Richard's Octagon House, Watertown; and the McDonnel/Pierce House, 404 N. Pinckney, Madison. - The pencil drawings consist of measured floor plans and architectural details which are accompanied by separate loose pages containing additional information about the houses.

3. Atwood, Ormsby, and Green family papers
Papers and photographs documenting several generations of the Atwood, Ormsby and Green families from the 1850s through the 1950s and also documenting the family's estate, Bonnie Oaks (Marquette County, Wis.), that served as an informal artist's retreat during the 1920s and early 1930s. -Papers include genealogical materials, legal documents, correspondence, subject files, news clippings, published works, daily diaries of Alma Atwood and John Whitney Ormsby (1862-1866), and one blueprint of Bonnie Oaks (1924). The correspondence, subject files, and photographs comprise the majority of the collection. The bulk of the correspondence dates from the 1850s-1890s and is generally between family members, with a large number of outgoing letters from Alma Atwood Ormsby to her parents, Joshua Atwood and Rosina Wilson Atwood, and to her husband John Whitney Ormsby. Correspondence from the 1920s-1930s contains exchanges between members of the Green family including Eleanor Green (Piel), Katherine Green, and Mildred Ormsby Green, and the artists who visited Bonnie Oaks, such as Robert Fitzgerald, Zona Gale, Margery Latimer (Toomer), Joseph and Rosina Lhevinne, William Maxwell, Frantz Proschowski, Paul and Eslanda Robeson and Jean Toomer.

4. Additions to the Melvin Laird Papers
Additions, 1948-1973, consisting of 81 reels of microfilm created by the office of Melvin Laird and documenting his congressional career as well as his service as Secretary of Defense during the Nixon Administration.
