New Collections in the Archives of the WHS
Manuscript Collections:
1. Frank Lloyd Wright Ephemera Collection
Letters and drawings created by Frank Lloyd Wright, 1954-1955, 1959, for the E. Clarke Arnold house (Columbia, Wis.) and built of native stone from the area in 1955. Included are letters written by Frank Lloyd Wright and Eugene Masselink discussing the construction, drawings relating to the House, and photomechanical reproductions that document the design and cons truction of the House. Also included are lists briefly describing the conditions, titles and makers of the letters and sketches.
2. Congressman Tom Barrett Papers
Papers of Thomas M. Barrett, a Democrat who represented Wisconsin's 5th Congressional District (part of Milwaukee County) in the U.S. House of Representatives from January 1993 to January 2003. The papers consist of news clippings, press releases, office files, and subject and committee files focusing on banking and finance, energy and commerce, education, and health care.
3. Wisconsin State Centennial Stamp Design Contest
Stamp designs submitted to the Milwaukee Philatelic Society to commemorate Wisconsin’s centennial of statehood. The sketches were designed for the three-cent U.S. Postage stamp, the bulk of which consist of single color or black and white sketches generally less than 11 ½ x 7 inches, depicting various icons or events in Wisconsin history.
State Government Records:
During March and April, the State Archives added almost 175 cartons of records from state government agencies. Among the series transferred, the following are of note:
1. State Elections Board financial election campaign reports.
2. Files of Carol Doeppers, the head of the state's Privacy Council. This agency, which was terminated in 1995, was formed to monitor personal information in state government databases.
3. Files of Barry Larson, Department of Administration’s Division of Technology Management, document the development of distance learning through BadgerNet.
4. Minutes and grant records of the Wisconsin Land Information Board, an advisory group staffed by the Office of Land Information Services within the Department of Administration. This board was created to oversee and distribute funds for the modernization of county land records (Series 2519).
5. Files from the administration Governor Scott McCallum. Of special interest are records of his legal staff, particularly Amanda Schaunburg and Chad R. Taylor (Series 2851), and his two chiefs of staff, Mike Rugowski and Gene Gossert (Series 2833), as well as correspondence of his private secretary (Series 2819). The legal counsels' files include information on the state tobacco settlement, Indian gaming, and the Ethics Reform Task Force.
6. Additional records from the Thompson Administration also arrived. These include files, mainly 1995-1996, of Budget Director Rick Chandler (and DOA Secretary Mark Bugher, mainly 1999 (Series 2516). The latter contains files on state office building construction and the state tobacco settlement. Another group of DOA records, Series 2655, contains recommendations prepared for Governor Thompson. Records of Thompson's legal counsel (Series 2738) include files on the Good Friday suit brought by the Freedom from Religion Foundation and a test of the constitutionality of Thompson's proposed replacement of the Superintendent of Public Instruction with a Department of Education.

Summary: Individual case files documenting the monetary assistance and relief in the form of goods and services provided to persons in need. Files include applications for relief, field worker's report sheets which contain narrative accounts of case background, face sheets containing factual information about the applicant and his/her family, financial disbursement
sheets, correspondence, and related documents.
