The ARC is a cooperative project of the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the Wisconsin Historical Society to preserve historical records in Douglas County.

Genealogists, local-history writers, University students and faculty, and other researchers are encouraged to use the Center.

More than 70 series of local government public records include Douglas County tax rolls (1856-1955), ordinances (1887-1938) of the City of Superior, and special censuses (1891, 1900) of the City of Superior.

The ARC holds over 30 collections of papers and records produced by private organizations and individuals. Among them are records of nine local labor organizations, several unpublished local histories, and papers (1894) of the Superior Fire Sufferers' Fund.

Finding Aids

Detailed research tools at the ARC include registers and inventories for large collections and a card catalog listing of all holdings. The ARC also has all published guides to the holdings of the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Network Transfer Provisions

This feature makes available at Superior one of the nation's richest collections. Requests for temporary transfer of collections from Madison or other ARCs should be made to the head of the Superior ARC.

Other Research Resources

Related collections available for use in conjunction with the ARC include the Legler Collection, an extensive collection of local history materials and a variety of genealogical reference sources.
