Canadian Government Publications

The Society's Library is a selective depository library for Canadian federal government publications. Its collections date to 1841 and constitute in conjunction with the the holdings of libraries on the UW-Madison Campus a large collection of Canadian federal government publications. Records for a few of these publications will be found in MadCat. Contact the Reference Staff for assistance.

Until 1978, the Society's Library also actively collected blue books, agency reports and legislative journals from all the Canadian provinces and territories. Since that time the emphasis has been on acquiring blue books, statistical abstracts, legislative journals and histories.

Items in the Canadian government collection may be requested in-person at the Library's Circulation Desk or via Interlibrary Loan.

To discover if the library owns a particular title, search the Library Catalog (formerly MadCat). Because records for many publications will not be found in the Library Catalog, please contact the Society's Government Publications staff at 608-261-2460 if you are having trouble locating a publicaton.
