Lessons Learned
by Peter Gottlieb, State Archivist

Peter Gottlieb

With help from many individuals and grant funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, the Wisconsin Historical Records Advisory Board presents this new blueprint for improving our state's historical records. We are taking away several lessons from the planning surveys and discussions. First, preserving historical records in digital formats is the challenge we must face in order to ensure citizens' rights, accountable organizations and a rich, accessible cultural heritage. Second, it is only through partnerships among many organizations and professions that we can meet this challenge and make progress on all of our goals. Finally, our historical records remain essential resources for the way of life Wisconsin proudly represents: a robust civic culture, citizens’ participation in government, and a wealth of cultural and learning resources. We look forward to joining with partners to pursue the goals in our plan.
