Local History

More than 360 county, local and specialized historical societies work with the Wisconsin Historical Society to preserve Wisconsin's history.

Members of local historical societies can use the Organizing and Making Connections and Help for Local Historians links to learn more about the advice and assistance available from the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Active or beginning local history researchers can check the Local Historical Society Directory on this website to find which communities in Wisconsin have affiliated historical societies. Researchers will also want to learn more about the resources available through the Wisconsin Historical Society Library, Archives, and Area Research Center system.
