Arranging An Island School Tour of Madeline Island

The Island School program is an excellent way for 3rd through 5th graders to experience Madeline Island and is offered in May and early June each year. This program consists of a museum tour and special fur trade program, as well as a narrated historical tour of the village of La Pointe. Reservations for the Island School program are made through the Madeline Island Ferry Line by calling 715-747-2051. If possible, reservations should be made at least two weeks before your visit. The best dates and times are available to those who register early! Here are some things you may want to know to help you plan your tour:

  • Travel time on the ferry is 30 minutes each way. Length of the island historical tour is one hour; the museum tour is 90 minutes.
  • The museum has a wonderful gift shop where students can shop for that special souvenir of their trip to Madeline Island.
  • The Island School program cost is $7 per student and covers the cost of ferry boat transportation, village of La Pointe tour and the museum tour.
  • Four complimentary adults per bus; additional adults $16.
  • Madeline Island Ferry leaves from Bayfield, located on State Highway 13.
  • Cost of ferrying bus to the island is approximately $52 round trip.
  • A number of convenient eating establishments in La Pointe are within walking distance of the museum; soda machines and snacks are also close by.
