Symbols from the Ukraine

Pauline Lencz of Owen, Wisconsin decorates eggs with a wide range of symbols that have been passed down for many generations in her Ukrainian-American family. The arrow-like motifs depict pine needles, representing eternal youth, health and stamina. The deer symbolizes wealth and prosperity, and the church represents Easter and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
