Wisconsin Magazine of History Cover, Winter 06-07

On the December cover of the Wisconsin Magazine of History, Wisconsin politician Donald Peterson of Eau Claire (front and center with glasses and jacket slung over his shoulder) led the progressive wing of the state’s Democratic Party to a showdown at the 1968 national convention in Chicago. In a country divided by the unpopular Vietnam War, Peterson fought for peace, spearheading the “dump President Johnson” movement and marching with thousands of people to protest Chicago Mayor Daley’s brutal treatment of anti-war demonstrators.
