Wisconsin Model Academic Standards
for History
In accordance with Wisconsin's Statutes, the Office of School Services provides both publications and programs to enhance the teaching of state and local history. As our staff develops new materials about Wisconsin, we address more than historical content. Our curricular activities incorporate strategies that actively engage students as historians "doing history." As well as undergirding higher-level thinking skills and embracing a variety of learning styles, we work to meet the history performance standards outlined in the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for Social Studies (Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, 1998). In addition to complementing the history standards, many of our publications satisfy academic standards in other disciplines, including: geography, sociology, English/language arts, environmental education, and science.
