742. New York Journal, 18 February 1788

On Saturday last a number of gentlemen met at the Merchant’s Coffee-House, and celebrated the ratification of the Fœderal Constitution by Massachusetts. On this occasion the thirteen stripes were displayed from the top of the house. When the toasts were drank, after dinner, six guns were fired at each toast, in honor of the six states (viz. Pennsylvania, Delaware, New-Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Georgia) which have adopted and ratified the new mode of government prescribed by the late Fœderal Convention.
