… The New Constitution is scarcely named here—the people in general appear to be totally unacquainted with it, & equally indifferent as to it’s Establishment. The votes, in this County, from the best information that I have been able to get, have been for Mr H. for Gover. & Mr L. for Leut Govr.—This I think is a circumstance much in their favour—But they care very little about those matters. …
