Wisconsin's First Governor Farmed This Land
Nelson Dewey, Wisconsin's first governor, had high hopes for this pastoral stretch of land nestled between the Mississippi
River and the spectacular limestone bluffs that tower above it. He called his beloved riverside agricultural estate
Stonefield. While his farming enterprise faded into history, the name he gave it lives on at a historic site that
pays homage to Dewey and the history of agriculture in Wisconsin.
