Introduction to National History Day Webinar
Tuesday, September 10, 4-5 pm
Join us to learn the basics of the National History Day Program. The 45 minute webinar will include discussion of the format of NHD, the annual theme, student and teacher resources, as well as project examples. No special equipment is needed. Great for teachers who are thinking of working with NHD and those that are starting this year!
National History Day Implementation Webinar
Thursday, September 12, 4-5 pm
Want to learn specifics about how to work with NHD in you classroom? This webinar will address timetables, rubrics, NHD rules, and provide examples of how start working with NHD that go beyond the basics. This webinar follows the Intro Webinar (Sept 10) but is useful on its own for teachers needing more information about classroom planning and WHS support for working with NHD.

National History Day (NHD) methodology includes extensive primary and secondary research into a topic of choice related to an annual theme. This project-based learning experience pulls together Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts, especially the appendix outlined as Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects. Join us to learn more about NHD and Common Core through hands-on experience with NHD in Wisconsin staff on standards planning, usage, and goals, all while utilizing the NHD program framework. You’ll walk away from this workshop with ready to use lessons, standards correlations, and project examples. Lunch will be provided.

As an experienced NHD teacher are you looking for ways to continue to improve student work? Join us for a new workshop that will delve into the judging process (including the judge orientation given at regionals and state!) and project examples (from Wisconsin and the national contest). Gain hands-on experience by judging student work and breaking down the elements of a winning history day project. This workshop will allow NHD teachers to fully experience the judging process of NHD to be able to successfully guide student work all the way to the national contest! Please RSVP by January 24 for both workshops.

Tuesday, December 3, 5-8 pm, University School of Milwaukee
This evening will allow all NHD educators, to meet and share experiences. This meeting will be informal and will allow for conversation and questions. We will be hosted by Chuck Taft, NHD educator from the University School of Milwaukee. Chuck has been extremely successful in working with NHD over the past 10 years and will share his methods. We expect this to be a unique chance to troubleshoot with other educators working with the program. NHD in Wisconsin staff will be present and dinner will be provided.
