Annual Theme

Each year, the National History Day selects a theme to guide student research. The theme is broad enough to allow students to research a variety of topics, yet engaging enough to inspire student research.

Student topics must fit the annual theme. As a central component of their project, students should think about how their topic connects to the annual theme. In addition to viewing upcoming themes, you may also wish to view the list of previous themes, found in the event information section, on our list of national contest finalists.
