Weaving a Wisconsin Tapestry

Welcome to Weaving a Wisconsin Tapestry (WWT), web pages created by young people to highlight Wisconsin history and culture. Students participating in WWT have the opportunity to conduct historical research and present their findings to a worldwide audience. Teachers interested in developing integrated instructional units are attracted to WWT, since students' projects often combine social studies with language arts, technology, art, and other disciplines. WWT projects have also forged positive partnerships between community organizations and schools. The Office of School Services invites Wisconsin teachers and students to get involved in WWT.
There are two ways to participate in Weaving a Wisconsin Tapestry:
- Contribute information to one of several existing projects designed for statewide participation. Check out the list of websites that welcome contributions prepared by young researchers.
- Create a new website about an aspect of state or local history. In most cases, projects premier on a school district website, then are linked to WWT. Please refer to the guidelines before beginning your project.
Please feel free to contact Bobbie Malone of the Office of School Services for more information about Weaving a Wisconsin Tapestry.
Established in 1998 by the Pioneering Partners for the Wisconsin Sesquicentennial celebration, the State Historical Society of Wisconsins Office of School Services assumed responsibiity for coordinating WWT in January, 1999. Thanks to Matt, Emma, Colleen, Charlie, Alex, Ben, Sam, Zach, Sarah, Ellen, Vu, David, and Leslie at Randall Elementary School in Madison for designing the WWT logo!
