1866 - Charles Herman Weisse Born

On this date Charles Herman Weisse was born near Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan County. In 1880 he started work in a tannery and became a partner in 1888. Weisse served as president of the city council of Sheboygan Falls from 1893 to 1896 and treasurer of the school board from 1897 to 1900. Weisse was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1904 and 1908 and was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election in 1900 to the Fifty-seventh Congress. He was elected to Congress as a Democrat, serving from March 4, 1903 to March 3, 1911. He was killed in a tragic accident October 8, 1919.[Source: Biographical Dictionary of the United States Congress]

1933 - Amelia Earhart Visits Janesville
