1832 - Fort Koshkonong Construction Completed

On this date General Henry Atkinson wrote General Winfield Scott that he had finished constructing Fort Koshkonong. The fort, constructed of oak logs, was abandoned when the army pursued and defeated Black Hawk at the Battle of Bad Axe in August of 1832. The logs from the fort were then used in the construction of houses in the community now known as Fort Atkinson. By 1840, little of the original fort remained. 1853 - Turnverein Milwaukee Organized

On this date one of the oldest and largest gynmastic societies in Milwaukee was organized. With the influx of German immigrants settling in Milwaukee, German athletic and social clubs like Turnverein flourished. The association was officially incorporated on February 14, 1855. 1863 - (Civil War) Battle of Honey Springs, Oklahoma

The Battle of Honey Springs, Indian Territory (now the state of Oklahoma), was fought on this day. It is remembered primarily for the large number of Native American and African-American troops who fought on each side. The 3rd Wisconsin Cavalry participated at Honey Springs.

1995 - Scott Paper and Kimberly-Clark Merge

On this date, after months of negotiations, the merger of Scott Paper and Kimberly-Clark companies was announced. The $9.4 billion merger created a Fortune 100 global consumer products company with annual revenue of more than $13 billion. [Source: KimberlyClark.com]
