1864 - (Civil War) Scouting Mission to Duvall's Bluff, Arkansas
The 29th Wisconsin Infantry left for a scouting mission to Duvall's Bluff, Arkansas.

1866 - Charles Herman Weisse Born
On this date Charles Herman Weisse was born near Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan County. In 1880 he started work in a tannery and became a partner in 1888. Weisse served as president of the city council of Sheboygan Falls from 1893 to 1896 and treasurer of the school board from 1897 to 1900. Weisse was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1904 and 1908 and was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election in 1900 to the Fifty-seventh Congress. He was elected to Congress as a Democrat, serving from March 4, 1903 to March 3, 1911. He was killed in a tragic accident October 8, 1919.[Source: Biographical Dictionary of the United States Congress]

1933 - Amelia Earhart Visits Janesville
On this date Amelia Earhart spoke to the Janesville Woman's History Club as part of the group's 57th anniversary celebration. Four years later, Earhart disappeared as she attempted to fly across the Pacific Ocean. [Source: Janesville Gazette 10/24/1933, p.2]
