These bathing beauties were featured in a catalog from Gimbel's Dept. Store, which began in Milwaukee in the 1880s before relocating to New York and becoming the world's largest department store chain. These pictures reflect the standards of artistic taste and feminine beauty that would soon gain immense popularity from the hand of Charles Dana Gibson, creator of the so-called "Gibson Girl" who dominated American advertising at the turn of the 20th century.
