Published as a supplement to the "Routes and Rates Book" of the Chicago, Alton, & St. Louis Railroad, this travel guide to the upper Midwest provided tourists with information about the best hotels and attractions along the railroad line. Trips to streams, springs, and lakes with supposed healing powers were especially popular in the latter half of the nineteenth century and this guide contains substantial information on the "miracle" waters of Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan.
