The original home of Schlitz beer in Milwaukee
Schlitz started on Chestnut St. in 1849
August Krug began producing beer in Milwaukee in 1849. His bookkeeper, Joseph Schlitz, took control of the company after Krug died in 1856, renaming it the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company. This image is of the brewery soon after Krug began brewing beer.
