Red Falcons: Children and the Socialist Party in Milwaukee
The Socialist Party in Milwaukee made many efforts to recruit young people. They organized committees and clubs that sponsored camping trips, sports, and crafts for children. Children were also encouraged to learn about the Socialist Party, to participate in strikes, and to understand the history of the movement. The young Socialists were organized into different groups depending on their age: the Red Sparks for young children, the Red Falcons for older children, and the Young People's Socialist Party for teens. This site, part of the Children in Urban America Project, contains articles from the Socialist newspapers aimed at children, the constitution of the Young People's Socialist League, and various other documents relating to the activities of young Socialists.
