Governor Thompson introduces Model Academic Standards, 1997

State of the State Address (January 29, 1997)


Each January, the Governor delivers the "State of the State" address, which usually summarizes the previous year's accomplishments and looks ahead to new initiatives for the coming year. In 1997, Governor Tommy Thompson introduced his program to create model academic standards. In the speech, he explains why he thinks they are necessary and what benefit they will have for the state.
