A woman's experience of the Army.
Luida and Lewis Sanders papers, 1941-1952, 1957-1991, 2000 (selections).
During World War II, Luida Sanders served in the Women's Army Corps (W.A.C.). In these three letters Luida writes home to her mother to describe life in the army as a woman. She describes her social life, mail call, basic training, talking to soldiers, and getting vaccinations. Additional documents (described here) exist in paper form in the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives, including the transcript of an interview with Luida , an excerpt from the book Women Remember the War: 1941-1945, regarding her service in the Women's Army Corps.
