From sport to relaxation in Northern Wisconsin resorts, 1926

Romance and adventure mark early history of resorts

Tourism in northern Wisconsin began in the late 19th century and expanded in the early twentieth, as transportation routes improved and resorts sprang up to meet the needs of travelers. Most early travelers came to hunt and fish, though this slowly began to shift as people began coming more for rest and relaxation than for sport. This article looks at the growth and development of the tourist industry in Vilas County over a 50 year period, ending in 1926.
